Shamanism by Julie Bithell

Shamanism is one of the oldest spiritual practices and has been practiced for thousands of years, evidence suggests at least 40 thousand years. The word Shaman means ‘spiritual healer’ or ‘one who sees in the dark’ and the word itself comes from a tribe that originated in Siberia. Shamans believe we are all part of nature and one with all life, connected to one another on the great web of life. I have trained at Findhorn in Scotland, with the Three Ravens College in Lancaster and was privileged to undertake further training in 2013 with the inspirational Sandra Ingerman, at Lendrick Lodge in Scotland. Since then I have also trained with Brooke Medicine Eagle, Maria Treviso a Native American Elder and teacher. A further privilege was to study with Don Alberto, Peruvian Jungle Shaman, on his first trip to the UK.

Therapeutic Shamanism uses core shamanic principles with counselling and psychotherapy theory to directly interact with spirit in order to provide healing, bring new awareness and solve problems to enable a return to wholeness. It is highly relevant to modern life and its dis-eases. Shamanism provides an easily learnt tool-kit of techniques and methods that are profoundly useful for personal healing, help with life issues, raise self- awareness, promote personal and spiritual development, and much more.

Shamanic Healing – How sessions work:  Shamanic Healing can either be a one-off session or a series of sessions, depending on client need. Sessions are usually a minimum of 2.5 hours. The beginning of the session will involve talking about your issues and what you would like to work on, usually this would be some kind of healing and often soul retrieval. Prior to this, I would have asked you to email (or by phone) the issues that are affecting you. The second part of the session will usually involve me journeying for you, unless you have prior shamanic experience, then we may journey together. In the third part of the session, I will relay your healing journey to you and encourage you to record it in some way. We will discuss the session, then talk about aftercare and how what you have gained can be incorporated into your everyday life. Shamanism is very practical.

Therapeutic Shamanism or Shamanic Counselling:  Shamanic Counselling would usually take place over a number of sessions, anything between 3 and 6 and would take the form of a shamanic healing with the focus on personal healing, help with relationships or helping to heal emotional illness. It would also consist of empowering you to be able to journey for yourself, in effect becoming your own shamanic practitioner. Woven into this way of working is a Person Centred approach, I would look to helping you to deepen your spiritual practice if that’s what you would like.

Shamanic sessions are £100.  Please feel free to contact me should you require further details or wish to make an appointment.

“Julie has trained to be a Shamanic practitioner yet her skill is more natural than learnt from training. It is part of her. Julie’s gift as a communicator puts you at ease while her wisdom and kindness encourages you to reconnect and explore your inner self. Friendly, professional and inspiring I highly recommend her work as a Shaman either privately, or in a group workshop.”
